If you like punk-type bands with catchy tunes and thoughtful lyrics, you'll like Eleventyseven's first release. The trio from South Carolina have a clear message to the youth of this world: Just be real. Whether they're critiquing the MySpace fad or declaring the need for something better than a revolution, Eleventyseven has a unique voice and a great sound.

The content of the CD ranges from suicide to heartbreak. It deals with issues that are very real to teenagers like what to do when you lack faith. Although some of the songs might have silly titles (The Unicorn Revolt, Nostalgiatopia) the songs are anything but silly.

The lyrics are amazing and really make you think. Lines such as "teach me how to kneel when I don't know how to feel" stick in your head like glue and are good words to pray. The band took a stand and declared that they would only write positive lyrics simply because they were tired of seeing so many negative bands in the world. That alone impressed me enough to at least listen to their music. After that, I instantly became addicted.

The music includes many upbeat rhythms, melodic piano pieces and vocal harmonies that make it a delight to listen to. As far as I've seen, they are very active onstage as well, although I haven't seen them in concert, just videos of them.

For those of you who like bands like Hawk Nelson and Relient K, Eleventyseven is definitely a band worth checking out.

Mission and testimony

This blog is dedicated to reviewing Christian music, popular and unpopular, in the hopes of turning young Christians on to positive music.

Whether you're a Youth Pastor, a youth leader, a parent, a concerned adult or a youth student, I invite you to check out the blog and email me (to the right of this post) with any questions.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born into Christianity at a young age. I've been going to the same church all my life and I'm now a youth leader at that same church.

I was saved when I was about 7 and baptized soon afterward but it wasn't until my senior year in high school that I really started living for God. God has definitely called me to a position in full-time ministry, most likely Youth Pastor, but I can't be sure yet so I won't rule anything else out.

Anyway, take a look around and comment if you'd like.
